I know this may seem like harping on the same point, but it is important and we as parents need to remember it. Allow your children to experience life for themselves. Don’t make decisions for them all the time; they must learn how to live with the consequences from the choices they make. After all, they will have to learn to think for themselves sometime. It’s best they start when you are there to help minimise the negative consequences and accentuate the positive ones. They need to learn that their own actions have consequences either good or bad. By allowing them to make their own dicisions early on, they become adept at making good decision and they better problem solvers. This is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child, as it prepares for independence and adulthood.
